Swap deal on the horizon? Brentford want a Newcastle player to negotiate for Yoane Wissa

Brentford manager Keith Andrews has said he expects Yoane Wissa to remain at the club even after the transfer window closes. The DR Congo forward, who has expressed a desire to leave, has yet to feature this season under Andrews but returned to training last week after the club rejected a second bid from Newcastle worth around £40 million.

Previously, the Magpies had submitted an initial offer of £30 million. Frustrated by the refusal, Wissa left the pre-season camp in Portugal and reportedly threatened not to train or play unless his move was sanctioned. Despite the pressure, Brentford held firm on keeping him.

The 28-year-old did not play in the 1-0 win over Aston Villa last weekend and will also be absent from the Carabao Cup tie against Bournemouth. Andrews, however, confirmed that he fully expects Wissa to stay with the squad once the window closes.

The manager explained that the decision to leave Wissa out is strategic and focused on the team’s cohesion. He highlighted that similar situations occur at many clubs and that the priority is to maintain collective focus, avoiding distractions caused by transfer speculation.

Despite the ongoing saga, Andrews praised Wissa’s contribution to Brentford. Over four years, the forward has established himself as a key player, scoring many Premier League goals and becoming increasingly influential. The coach emphasized that his stance has not changed: he knew there would be external interest, but trusts that Wissa will remain with the Bees this season.
